How does therapy actually work?
Think of therapy as a collaborative exploration. We'll look at your experiences together, identify patterns that might be holding you back, and discover new ways of understanding yourself and your relationships. In this safe, non-judgmental space, you can process emotions, work through trauma, and uncover who you really are—all moving at whatever pace feels right for you.
The beauty of this process is that it's genuinely collaborative. You're not sitting while someone analyzes you; you're working together with someone who's trained to help you see things from new angles and develop tools that actually work for your life.
-
How long will this take?
This is one of the most common questions, and honestly, there's no standard answer because healing happens at your own unique pace. Some people find what they need in a few months, while others benefit from longer-term support as they work through complex trauma or navigate major life transitions.
What I can promise is that we'll regularly check in about your progress and goals. You're always in control of your healing journey, and we can adjust our approach based on what's working and what isn't. During our initial consultation, we'll talk about what you're hoping to address so you have a better sense of what might be most helpful.
-
What can I expect from you as my therapist?
You can expect warmth, genuine acceptance, and care as I meet you exactly where you are without any judgment. I listen deeply, honor your natural healing process, and work with you rather than directing you toward some predetermined outcome.
My approach is gentle and trauma-informed, which means I understand how past experiences affect present-day life, and I'm always respectful of your pace and boundaries. Some days you might want to dive deep into difficult topics; other days you might need to focus on building coping skills or just processing what's happening in your current life. All of that is perfectly valid.
-
Will you really understand and accept who I am?
Absolutely. I'm committed to providing an affirming, non-judgmental space where you can be completely yourself. I have deep respect for diverse identities and experiences, especially understanding the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and those who have experienced trauma or systemic oppression.
Your true identity isn't something to be fixed or changed—it's something to be celebrated and honored. My job is to help you embrace who you are while building the skills and confidence to navigate a world that isn't always as accepting as it should be.
-
How will I know if this is working?
You'll likely notice subtle shifts first—maybe you feel more comfortable being yourself, you respond differently to situations that used to trigger you, or you find yourself speaking up in ways you couldn't before. Progress isn't always linear, and healing often happens in small, meaningful moments rather than dramatic breakthroughs.
Some clients notice they're sleeping better, feeling less anxious, or approaching relationships with more confidence and clarity. Others find that old patterns don't have the same power over them anymore. We'll regularly check in about what's shifting for you, and I'll help you recognize progress you might not notice on your own.

Does telehealth really work as well as in-person therapy?
Yes! Many clients find telehealth just as effective as in-person sessions, and some actually prefer it. It offers convenience and comfort while maintaining the same therapeutic connection and depth of work. All sessions are secure and HIPAA-compliant, and they're designed to feel warm and personal despite the virtual format.
Plus, telehealth makes it possible for us to work together anywhere in Louisiana, which means you have access to specialized, affirming care regardless of where you live.
-
What about cost and insurance?
I understand that cost is an important consideration, and I want to be transparent about pricing. Sessions are $125 for 50 minutes, though I do offer a sliding scale starting at $80 for those who need it—we can discuss this during your consultation.
While I don't currently accept insurance directly, there may be options for using your out-of-network benefits. I'm happy to discuss payment options for your specific situation during our consultation call because I believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care.

How does scheduling work?
I use Simple Practice for scheduling and telehealth sessions, which makes everything streamlined and secure. Once we decide to work together, you'll receive a link to create an account where you can schedule appointments, message me between sessions if needed, join your sessions, and manage payment.
I currently offer evening and weekend appointments, with more availability coming soon. We can discuss any specific scheduling needs during our initial consultation to make sure we find times that work well for your life.

What if I need to cancel or reschedule?
Life happens, and I completely understand that sometimes you need to change your appointment. Just reach out at least 48 hours before your scheduled time, and we can reschedule without any issues.
Cancellations within 48 hours or missed appointments are billed at the full rate, but I'm always willing to work with you if there are emergency situations or ongoing scheduling challenges.
