FAQ

  • How does therapy actually work?

We'll talk about what's bothering you and look for patterns that might be keeping you stuck. Together, we'll figure out new ways to think about your experiences and handle difficult situations. You can talk about emotions, address past trauma, and better understand yourself—all moving at whatever speed feels comfortable.

I don't sit back and analyze you. We work together. I bring training and perspective to help you see things differently and develop tools that fit your life.

  • How long will this take?

There's no standard answer because everyone's timeline is different. Some people get what they need in a few months. Others work through complex trauma or major life changes over a longer period.

We'll regularly check in about your progress and goals. You're in control, and we can adjust based on what's working. During our initial consultation, we'll talk about what you want to address so you have a better sense of what to expect.

  • What can I expect from you as my therapist?

You can expect warmth, acceptance, and care. I meet you where you are without judgment. I listen, and I work with you rather than telling you what to do.

I understand how past experiences affect your life today, and I respect your pace and boundaries. Some days you might want to tackle difficult topics. Other days you might need to focus on coping skills or just talk about what's happening now. All of that is fine.

  • Will you really understand and accept who I am?

Yes. You can be completely yourself here without judgment. I have deep respect for diverse identities and experiences, especially the unique challenges faced by LGBTQ+ individuals and people who have experienced trauma or systemic oppression.

Your identity isn't something to fix or change. My job is helping you embrace who you are while building the skills and confidence to deal with a world that isn't always accepting.

  • How will I know if this is working?

You'll likely notice subtle shifts first—maybe you feel more comfortable being yourself, you respond differently to situations that used to trigger you, or you find yourself speaking up in ways you couldn't before. Progress isn't always linear, and changes often happen in small, meaningful moments rather than dramatic breakthroughs.

Some clients notice they're sleeping better, feeling less anxious, or approaching relationships with more confidence and clarity. Others find that old patterns don't have the same power anymore. We'll regularly check in about what's shifting for you, and I'll help you recognize progress you might not notice on your own.

  • Does telehealth really work as well as in-person therapy?

Yes! Many clients find telehealth just as effective as in-person sessions, and some actually prefer it. It offers convenience and comfort while maintaining the same therapeutic connection and depth of work. All sessions are secure and HIPAA-compliant, and they're designed to feel warm and personal despite the virtual format.

I offer both telehealth and in-person sessions, so we can find the format that works best for you. Telehealth is available throughout Louisiana and South Carolina, and in-person sessions are available at my Metairie office. You must be physically located in a state where I am licensed at the time of any telehealth session.

  • What about cost and insurance?

I understand that cost is an important consideration, and I want to be transparent about pricing. Sessions are 50 minutes and the standard rate is $125, though I do offer a sliding scale starting at $70 for those who need it — we can discuss this during your consultation.

I am currently in-network with Blue Cross Blue Shield of Louisiana, Aetna, UnitedHealthcare, Cigna/Evernorth, Aetna Better Health of Louisiana, Healthy Blue Louisiana, AmeriHealth Caritas Louisiana, Humana Healthy Horizons Louisiana, Louisiana Healthcare Connections, Medicare, and Medicare managed care plans. Insurance participation is subject to change, so I recommend verifying your coverage directly with your insurer before scheduling. For clients with out-of-network benefits or those paying privately, I'm happy to discuss options during our consultation call — because I believe everyone deserves access to quality mental health care.

  • How does scheduling work?

I use Simple Practice for scheduling and telehealth sessions, which keeps everything secure. Once we decide to work together, you'll receive a link to create an account where you can schedule appointments, message me between sessions if needed, join your sessions, and manage payment.

I currently offer evening and weekend appointments, with more availability coming soon. We can discuss any specific scheduling needs during our initial consultation.

  • What if I need to cancel or reschedule?

Life happens, and I completely understand that sometimes you need to change your appointment. Just reach out at least 24 hours before your scheduled time and we can reschedule without any issues.

Cancellations with less than 24 hours' notice, or missed appointments, are billed at the full session rate. This applies regardless of insurance status and is not billable to your insurance plan. That said, I'm always willing to work with you if there are genuine emergency situations.
